Carl Furillo had 3 base hits at Forbes Field where the Chicago-NL Cubs beat
the Pittsburgh Pirates 6 to 4.

Chicago-NL tallied 4 runs in the top of the 7th inning when they came up with
4 base hits. They would prove to be the difference in the contest.
Pittsburgh had a chance to come back in the 9th but they came up short.

Sal Maglie(1-0) picked up the victory, allowing 2 runs in 7 innings. Billy
Pierce(1-2) was tagged with the loss. He allowed a few too many baserunners
giving up 10 hits and 4 walks in 7 innings.

Andy Spector was subdued after the ballgame, 'That one really hurts. If our
guys had simply played more fundamentally sound, we could have won that one.
That is what really ticks me off!'
