Billy Klaus went yard and had 5 RBI as the Cincinnati Reds rallied
impressively to win in dramatic style over Washington Nationals, 8 to
7.

Cincinnati had the game winning rally in the 9th inning plating 3 runs using 3
hits. After an out was recorded, Larry Doby was the sparkplug when he lofted
a solo-blast 'downtown'. Hank Bauer struck out, unable to help the rally.
Wayne Belardi then delivered a single. Klaus followed and he bombed a
two-run dinger giving Cincinnati the win much to the delight of the home town
crowd. A wild and woolly affair, this game saw the lead change 6 times.

Nellie King(1-0) allowed no runs in 1 and 2/3 innings, and picked up the
victory. Ellis Kinder(0-1) was the losing pitcher in relief. He allowed 2
hits and no walks without retiring a batter.

'Now there is a lesson in perseverance for you,' Klaus noted. 'It was looking
pretty dim there for a while, but we just kept plugging away and it really
paid off in spades! And it was great to see the crowd go crazy there at the
end!'
