Fred Hutchinson went 6 solid innings and right fielder Dale Mitchell hit one
over the fence and had 5 RBI as the Boston Red Sox crushed the St. Louis
Cardinals 16 to 3.
Mitchell provided the offensive punch. He delivered a single in the 1st
inning, doubled scoring two baserunners in the 3rd inning and lofted a
three-run 'big-fly' in the 4th inning. Boston lit up the scoreboard in the
4th inning which saw them plate 6 runs on 5 hits and the 8th inning which saw
them score 4 runs on 5 hits. The Boston offense man-handled the St. Louis
pitching staff as they scored in 7 of the 9 innings.
The win went to Hutchinson(1-0) who allowed 2 runs in 6 innings. Hutchinson
got help from Andy Hansen who earned his 2nd save. Vic Raschi(0-1) was given
the loss. He was knocked around by Boston, allowing 10 hits and 3 walks in 4
