TEAM RISP- Nationals: 10 for 15 Cubs: 3 for 5

Third baseman Ray Boone launched 3 homeruns and had 7 RBI and Don Newcombe
pitched a complete game as the Chicago-NL Cubs were badly beaten by the
Washington Nationals, 17 to 5.

Boone was a one-man wrecking crew. He lost the ball over the fence for three
runs in the 1st inning, cleared the fences for a two-run home run in the 3rd
inning and clubbed a two-run home run in the 6th inning. Washington provided
plenty of action in the 1st inning which saw them score 4 runs on 4 hits, the
6th inning which saw them plate 4 runs on 4 hits and the 8th inning when they
had 5 runs on 5 hits. Washington banged out 19 hits on the afternoon.

The win was credited to Newcombe(2-2) who went the whole way allowing 5 runs.
Mike Garcia(2-1) was the loser. His ERA ballooned from 2.70 to 4.32 as he
allowed 8 runs in 5 innings.

'I was in my hotel room the other night, working on my swing and made some
adjustments,' Boone said. 'I'm always working on it. If they are getting you
out certain ways, you've got to make changes.'
