Bill Doak delivered 9 solid innings at Forbes Field as the Pittsburgh Pirates
beat the Boston Red Sox by the count of 2 to 1.

Pittsburgh erupted with the game winning runs in the bottom of the 8th inning
plating 2 runs utilizing 2 base hits.  Mike Mowrey led off and started the
attack as he lined a base-hit.  Tex McDonald next to the plate and he drew a
walk.  Hippo Vaughn then let a pitch get away from him.  George McBride
stepped in and he would hit into a fielders choice bringing in a run.  Doak
dug into the batters box next, but he struck out.  Jack Dalton was a
strikeout victim, unable to help out.  Jake Daubert came to the plate and
laced a single scoring the final run of the inning.  The game was a scoreless
duel until the 8th inning.  

The win went to Doak(3-1) who allowed 1 run in the game. Vaughn(3-2) was given
the loss.  He pitched 8 innings giving up only 3 hits and 3 walks.
