Johnny Bates had 3 base hits at Forbes Field as the Pittsburgh Pirates staged
a comeback win over the New York-NL Giants by the count of 3 to
2.

Pittsburgh scored the decisive runs in a big bottom of the 9th inning scoring
2 runs.  Sam Crawford led off and started the attack as he reached on an
error.  Bates followed next and he reached on an error.  Mike Mowrey then
laid down a sacrifice bunt.  Ham Hyatt came up and he banged out a single
making Pittsburgh victorious to the delight of the the home town crowd.
Pittsburgh won despite being out-hit by New York-NL 13 hits to 8.  

The winning pitcher was Lefty Tyler(6-3) who allowed 1 run in 2 innings.
Mordecai Brown(0-1) was hit with the loss in relief.  'What a game!,' Tyler
said afterward.  'When we won it I almost couldn't believe it!'
