In a game for the baseball purist, Joe Benz(5-2) and Jack Quinn(1-6) squared off in a tense pitching duel, Philadelphia Athletics finally emerged victorious over New York Giants, 2 to 0. Benz contributed a very nicely pitched game. He surrendered only 4 hits and 1 walk in 7 innings seeing his ERA drop from 3.26 to 2.86. New York tried unsuccessfully to come back in the 9th. Bert Humphries preserved the game for Benz, recording his his 9th save. Andy Spector was in a talkative mood in the clubhouse, 'Great game! If only we could win all of the close ones - wouldn't that be nice! Since that's not going to happen, I think I'll savor this one for a little while.'
