TEAM RISP- Cubs: 4 for 14 Reds: 1 for 7

Eddie Mathews blasted 3 homeruns and had 5 RBI as the Chicago-NL Cubs defeated
the Cincinnati Reds by the score of 11 to 3 at Crosley Field.

Mathews was unconscious all day. The Cincinnati fans hated to see him
approaching the batter's box as he just kept delivering base hits! He ripped
a base-knock in the 1st inning, delivered a solo blast in the 3rd inning,
smashed a two-run homer in the 5th inning and cracked a two-run shot in the
9th inning. Overall Chicago-NL out-hit Cincinnati 13 to 8.

Tom Gorman(2-3) got credit for the victory, pitching 6 and 2/3 innings and
allowing 3 runs. Ray Crone(0-1) was the loser. He surrended 3 homeruns in
his 6 innings.

'I didn't feel that good when I came to the park today,' Mathews said. 'I'm
glad I decided to play!'
