separated the combatants at game's end.  The Kansas City Athletics won by the
slimmest of margins, 6 to 5.

Lew Burdette(4-1) had a fairly solid outing. He was reached for 7 hits and 4
walks in 6 innings.  Kansas City finished with 14 hits while Chicago-NL ended
up with 10.  

Marv Grissom preserved the game for Burdette, recording his his 9th save.  Don
Kaiser(0-3) was tagged with the loss.  He pitched 7 innings allowing 13 hits
and no walks.

'I struggled a bit out there today,' Burdette said, 'but I toughed it out and
we got the win.'
