Bot 4th: Oscar Stanage blocked the plate, saving a run!

In a lop-sided win the streaking Detroit Tigers ripped the Washington
Nationals by a 8 to 3 count.

Washington was unable to claim the lead after Detroit went ahead in the 4th
inning plating 2 runs using 5 hits. Ted Easterly opened up the inning nicely
when he tripled. After an out was recorded, Bobby Veach came to the plate
and hit a single which scored a run. Fred Merkle then doubled. Ray Chapman
was up next and he stroked a base-hit scoring the final run of the inning.
Overall Detroit out-hit Washington 19 to 8.

The winning pitcher was Wilbur Cooper(5-2) who allowed 3 runs in 7 and 2/3
innings. Ernie Shore recorded his 6th save. The loss was charged to Eddie
Cicotte(4-4). He was knocked around, surrendering 7 runs in 6 innings.

In another of a string of victories, Detroit extended their winning streak to
9 games.
