Walter Johnson delivered 10 solid innings at Fenway Park as the Boston Red Sox
beat the Chicago Cubs in 10 innings 2 to 1.
Both teams were tied at 1 runs apiece after nine innings. Boston was
victorious in the 10th inning. Bill Killefer stroked a one-base hit.
Johnson stepped into the batter's box and he laid down a sacrifice bunt.
After another out, Hans Lobert then doubled giving Boston the victory as
6,792 happy fans celebrated wildly. Both teams ended up with 7 hits on the
afternoon.
Johnson(3-4) was the winner allowing 1 run for the game. The loss was charged
to Al Mamaux(4-2) in relief. He gave up 3 hits and 1 walk in 2 and 2/3
innings.
'We didn't have a whole lot of chances today,' Lee Palmer said. 'Johnson just
was too much for our guys.'
