First baseman Vic Saier hit 2 doubles and had 5 RBI and Christy Mathewson came
through with a solid 9 innings as the Brooklyn Dodgers defeated the Detroit
Tigers 10 to 1 at Ebbets Field.

The home town fans were very appreciative of the fine hitting performance
provided by Saier.  He laced a base-hit in the 4th inning, doubled plating
two runs in the 5th inning and doubled with all three runners coming home in
the 6th inning.  Brooklyn rapped out 12 hits for the afternoon.

Mathewson(5-3) finished the game allowing 1 run in the victory. Wilbur
Cooper(6-3) suffered the loss.  He allowed a few too many baserunners giving
up 12 hits and 6 walks in 7 innings.  

'Mathewson pitched a gem of a game', Jim Murphy recounted.  'He kept our
batters off balance the entire game.'
