The Cincinnati Reds put 4 runs on the scoreboard in the 5th inning and nipped
the Pittsburgh Pirates 4 to 3 at Forbes Field in a hard fought
contest.

Pittsburgh surrendered all of the runs Cincinnati needed in the 5th inning
when they scored 4 runs on 4 hits. The highlight belonged to Ted Kluszewski
who deflated the mood of the partisan fans when he slapped a one-base hit
scoring two baserunners. Pittsburgh had a chance to come back in the 9th but
they came up short.

Tom Poholsky(5-7) went 6 and 2/3 innings allowing 1 run for the win. Tom
Morgan gained credit for his 2nd save. Early Wynn(8-5) ended up with the
loss.

Despite losing Andy Spector was optimistic after the game. 'We'll get over
this one. Sometimes the breaks fall your way, sometimes they don't. Any one
of a dozen little things go different, and we come out on top.'
