Third baseman Ray Boone knocked 2 homeruns and had 3 RBI and Don Newcombe
tossed a complete game as the Washington Nationals bested the Kansas City
Athletics 10 to 5 at Griffith Stadium.

Boone helped send the fans home happy. He clubbed a solo home run in the 2nd
inning and hit a bases-empty home run in the 8th inning. Washington finished
with 10 hits in the victory.

Newcombe(7-6), allowing 5 runs for the game, picked up the victory. Frank
Lary(7-5) was given the loss. When questioned, Gordy Renaud remarked, 'It's
been a while since a win felt this good - heck, it's been a while since we
had a win period!'
