The St. Louis Browns and the Chicago Cubs locked up in an exciting one-run
game at Sportsman'S Park. The final score was the St. Louis Browns 5, the
Chicago Cubs 4.
St. Louis had 3 runs cross the plate in the bottom of the 2nd inning with the
help of 5 hits. They ended up being the winning runs. Chicago had a chance
in the 9th but they came up short.
Ray Caldwell(10-1) was the winner allowing 4 runs in 8 innings. Caldwell was
helped out by Zip Zabel who recorded his 17th save. Russ Ford(7-6) absorbed
the loss.
'We just made a lot of mistakes, mostly mental,' Lee Palmer said. 'It's bad
enough when the other team beats you, but when you start beating yourselves,
that's really bad.'
