Smoky Burgess went yard at Yankee Stadium as the New York-AL Yankees staged a
comeback win over the Pittsburgh Pirates by the count of 4 to 3.

New York-AL scored the decisive runs in a big bottom of the 9th inning scoring
2 runs on 3 base hits. Earl Torgeson opened up the inning nicely when he
slapped a single. Lee Walls stepped into the batter's box and he laced a
base-knock. After an out was recorded, Bob Nieman then would hit into a
fielders choice scoring a run. Hank Aaron stepped in and he ripped a single
making New York-AL the victor and beginning a joyous home town celebration.
New York-AL out-hit Pittsburgh for the game, 12 hits to 5.

Lindy McDaniel(2-1) picked up the victory, allowing no runs in 2 innings. Tom
Acker(1-4) took the loss in relief. 'Wow, that was fun!', McDaniel said
following the game. 'Once in a while you play a game that reminds you just
why you got into this business to begin with!'
