TEAM RISP- Yankees: 6 for 12 Nationals: 5 for 16

Left fielder Bob Nieman knocked 2 homeruns and had 5 RBI as the New York-AL
Yankees outscored the Washington Nationals 13 to 9.

Nieman provided much of the offense. He banged out a single in the 1st
inning, launched a three-run homer in the 5th inning, ripped a base-knock
which plated a run in the 6th inning and hit a bases-empty home run in the
8th inning. Due to a poorly pitched ballgame, scoring in 5 different innings
was still not enough for Washington to come away with the victory.

Vern Law(1-0) went 4 innings allowing 1 run for the victory. The losing
pitcher was Roy Face(1-6) in relief. He was knocked around, surrendering 4
runs in 3 and 1/3 innings.

'It's almost like the ball was trying to hit my bat,' Nieman said. 'Whenever I
would swing, the ball found the sweet spot.'
