Left fielder Charlie Maxwell slammed 2 homeruns and had 4 RBI as the Kansas
City Athletics topped the Chicago-NL Cubs by a score of 10 to 3 at Municipal
Stadium.

Maxwell helped send the fans home happy.  He lifted one out of the park for a
two run home run in the 1st inning, popped a two-run clout over the fence in
the 4th inning and laced a base-knock in the 6th inning.  Chicago-NL was
out-hit by Kansas City, 14 hits to 7.  

The victory went to Bob Lemon(7-1) who went 7 innings, allowing 2 runs. Mike
Garcia(2-5) ended up with the loss.  He allowed 5 homeruns in 3 and 1/3
innings of work.  

Wth the win Kansas City now has a record of a league leading 40-16.  Ron Mead
was unhappy with his club's recent performance.  'We can't keep losing games'
he said.  'It gets to be embarrassing after a while.'
