Dixie Walker completed the game without help from the bullpen at National Park
as the Washington Nationals won in dramatic fashion coming back to beat the
Philadelphia Athletics by the count of 9 to 8.

Washington had the game winning rally in the 9th inning scoring 5 runners on 5
hits. The crucial at-bat was provided by George McBride who thrilled the
crowd when he tripled which was good for two runs. Due to a poorly pitched
ballgame, scoring in 5 different innings was still not enough for
Philadelphia to come away with the victory.

The winning pitcher was Walker(6-6) who allowed 8 runs for the game. The
losing pitcher was Elmer Leonard(1-1) in relief.

'Now there is a lesson in perseverance for you,' McBride noted. 'It was
looking pretty dim there for a while, but we just kept plugging away and it
really paid off in spades! And it was great to see the crowd go crazy there
at the end!'
