Chuck Stobbs(6-7) delivered a fine performance for New York-AL. He went 8
innings surrendering 10 hits and 1 walk seeing his ERA drop from 5.23 to
5.00. Cleveland tried unsuccessfully to come back in the 9th.
Don Gross recorded the save, his 5th. Tom Sturdivant(5-5) ended up with the
loss in relief. He was a hard-luck loser as he did not allow an earned run
in his 1 inning of work.
'Anytime you lose it hurts,' said Mel Gross 'but it's losing the close ones
that really hurt.'
