Sandy Amoros cracked a homer at Forbes Field as the Pittsburgh Pirates won a
thriller over the Washington Nationals in, 6 to 5.

Pittsburgh won the game with a run in the bottom of the 9th inning.  Amoros
drew a walk.  After an out was recorded, Al Dark came to bat and lashed a
single.  Red Schoendienst then banged out a single giving Pittsburgh the win
and sending the home town fans into a frenzy.  Pittsburgh banged out 9 hits
on the afternoon.  

Tom Acker(2-4) allowed 1 run in 2 innings, and picked up the victory. Don
Newcombe(6-6) took the loss.  He pitched 8 and 1/3 innings allowing 8 hits
and 2 walks.

Wth the win Pittsburgh now has a record of 28-29.  With this loss, Washington
has a 7-3 record of late, 39-26 overall.
