Dick Hoblitzell had 2 base hits and 2 RBI as the New York Giants defeated the
floundering St. Louis Browns in 10 innings 6 to 5 at Polo Grounds.
The score was knotted at 3 after nine innings. New York came out on top in
the 10th inning. After an out was recorded, Johnny Bates began the New York
spurt when he reached on an error. Miller Huggins stepped up to the plate
and he drew a walk. Amos Strunk then drew a walk to load the bases. Roger
Bresnahan stepped in and he drew a walk which brought home a run. Hoblitzell
stepped into the box and doubled making New York the victor and beginning a
joyous home town celebration. This was a game of many highs and lows for the
home town fans, as the lead kept changing - 5 times in all.
The win went to Stan Baumgartner(1-0) who allowed 2 runs in 2 innings. The
losing pitcher was Zip Zabel(1-9) in relief. New York now has a record of
23-62. St. Louis can't seem to snap out of their recent 'funk'. Now they
have a miserable 1-9 record over the last couple weeks.
