Ray Morgan had 2 base hits and 2 RBI and Erskine Mayer went the distance as
the Pittsburgh Pirates defeated the Washington Nationals by a score of 7 to 5
at Forbes Field.

Washington found themselves trailing quickly as the Pittsburgh bats came
through in the first inning scoring 2 runners on 3 hits.  Pittsburgh banged
out 15 hits on the afternoon.  

The victory went to Mayer(6-4) who went the distance allowing 5 runs. The loss
was charged to Bill James(3-10).  He was knocked around, surrendering 6 runs
in 2 and 1/3 innings.  

The Pittsburgh ballclub's record now stands at 49-49.  Washington continued
their losing ways and their record is now 26-64, worst in the division.  They
are 2-8 in their last ten games.
