WEB GEMS- Top 9th: Stan Rojek robbed Elbie Fletcher of a base hit.

In a thriling finish the New York Yankees pulled off the win over the Boston
Red Sox by a score of 9 to 7 at Yankee Stadium.

New York scored the decisive runs in a big bottom of the 9th inning with 2
runs on 2 base hits. After an out was recorded, Ralph Kiner started the
attack as he stroked a base-hit. Kiner got a great jump and stole second
easily. After another out, Ted Kluszewski then popped a two-run clout over
the fence resulting in an exciting win for New York and a raucous post-game
celebration by the home town fans. New York had a total of 12 hits for the
game.

The win went to Lloyd Hittle(1-1) who allowed no runs in 3 innings. Jack
Banta(7-4) ended up with the loss in relief. He surrendered 2 hits and no
walks in 1 and 2/3 innings.
