Second baseman Claude Ritchey had 2 base hits and Lefty Leifield went 9 strong
innings at Exposition Park where the Pittsburgh Pirates beat the slumping
Boston Beaneaters 8 to 2.

Pittsburgh took the lead for keeps in the 2nd inning as they scored 3 runs on
0 base hits.  That early scoring was all that Leifield(9-4) needed.
Pittsburgh finished with 7 hits in the victory.  

Gus Dorner(4-12) absorbed the loss.  Pittsburgh now has a record of 45-33.
Not able to get much going in recent weeks, Boston is 2-8 of late and now has
an overall record of 26-54, worst in the league.
