Left fielder Jesse Burkett had 6 hits and 7 RBI as the Cleveland Spiders
man-handled the Cincinnati Reds - the final score was 18 to 7.

Burkett was in a groove all day. The Cincinnati fans hated to see him
approaching the batter's box. He banged out a single bringing in a run in
the 1st inning, belted a three-run homer in the 2nd inning, slapped a
base-hit bringing in two baserunners in the 3rd inning, doubled in the 5th
inning, delivered a one-base hit in the 7th inning and ripped a base-hit
plating a run in the 8th inning. Cleveland kept the scorekeepers busy in the
3rd inning with 6 runs on 5 hits. Cleveland kept the pressure on throughout
the contest as they scored in 6 different innings.

Cy Young(20-6) went 8 and 2/3 innings allowing 7 runs for the win. Tom
Parrott(8-16) took the loss. He allowed a few too many baserunners giving up
22 hits and 3 walks in 9 innings.
