Don Newcombe carried a no-hitter into the 7th inning and third baseman Ray
Boone hit 2 doubles at Griffith Stadium as the Washington Nationals beat the
Chicago-NL Cubs in 10 innings 3 to 1.

The run-column was full of goose eggs at the end of nine full innings.
Finally, Washington pulled the game out in the 10th inning. After an out was
recorded, Boone got things rolling when he doubled. Roy Sievers stepped up
next and he drew a walk. Roy Campanella then lofted a three-run 'big-fly'
giving Washington the victory and sending the 16,942 home-town fans home
happy. For the game Washington out-hit Chicago-NL 11 to 2.

The victory went to Roy Face(2-8) who went 1 inning, allowing 1 run. The
right-handed Newcombe lost a no-hitter when Carl Furillo singled with one out
in the 7th inning. Don Kaiser(5-8) suffered the loss in relief.
