In a thriller the red-hot Detroit Tigers staged a dramatic comeback then held
on to win over the St. Louis-AL Browns by a score of 3 to 2 at Sportsmans
Park.

Detroit came through with the game-winning runs in the 9th inning scoring 3
runs utilizing 3 base hits. After two were out George Stone started the
attack as he hit a single. Frank Chance followed next and he reached on an
error. Bunk Congalton then stroked a base-hit knocking in a run. George
Davis followed and he laced a one-base hit scoring one more run. Davis took
second on the throw. Branch Rickey came to the plate and drew a walk to load
the bases. Jim Nealon kept the inning going and drew a walk scoring the
final run of the inning. Detroit won despite being out-hit by St. Louis-AL
10 hits to 6.

Otto Hess(15-5) allowed no runs in 1 inning, and picked up the victory. Jack
Pfiester was credited with his 15th save. Tully Sparks(8-4) was hit with the
loss. He was a hard-luck loser as he did not allow an earned run in his 8
and 2/3 innings of work.

Sparks was feeling apologetic in the locker room, 'I sure let that one get
away. What a miserable feeling to let the guys down; and our fans. One
minute things are looking great, then. BOOM, it's over with! I just hope I
get a chance to redeem myself real soon!'
