In a two run game the Cleveland Indians were finally were able to get back on
the winner's track and got by the Cincinnati Reds by the score of 11 to
9.
Cincinnati never recovered after Cleveland took the lead in the 3rd inning
when they scored 3 runs on 3 hits. The critical plate appearance was by Fred
Hatfield who elicited a roar from the hometown fans when he rifled a
three-run blast. Cincinnati tried unsuccessfully to come back in the 9th.
Tom Sturdivant(6-5) got the win allowing 1 run in 2 and 2/3 innings. Art
Fowler(7-7) took the loss. He was hit hard and gave up 8 hits and 2 walks in
3 innings.
'Some losses are harder to take than others' Rob Hickok lamented after the
game. 'This was one of them.'
