Third baseman Hector Lopez cracked 2 homeruns and had 5 RBI as the Pittsburgh
Pirates destroyed the Washington Nationals by a score of 15 to 4 at Griffith
Stadium.

Lopez was a source of great heartache for the Washington faithful all evening.
He just kept pounding out hits! He cracked a two-run shot in the 1st inning,
lined a one-base hit in the 3rd inning and belted a three-run homer in the
8th inning.  Pittsburgh lit up the scoreboard in the 1st inning with 5 runs
on 5 hits and the 8th inning which saw them score 4 runs on 4 hits.
Pittsburgh had 21 hits for the night while Washington had 9.  

The winning pitcher was Herb Score(8-5) who allowed 2 runs in 6 innings. Bob
Turley recorded his 1st save.  The losing pitcher was Don Newcombe(7-8).
Pittsburgh knocked him around a bit, as he gave up 9 runs in 3 and 1/3
innings.
