Frank Laporte slammed 2 homeruns and had 3 RBI as the phenomenal Philadelphia
Athletics topped the Chicago Cubs by a score of 6 to 3 at Shibe Park.
It was a good day for Philadelphia thanks to Laporte. He lined a single in
the 2nd inning, lofted a solo-blast 'downtown' in the 4th inning and blasted
a two-run home run in the 7th inning. Philadelphia finished with 11 hits
while Chicago ended up with 8.
Joe Benz(14-2) went 7 innings allowing 3 runs for the victory. Benz got help
from Al Demaree who earned his 1st save. The loss was charged to Eddie
Plank(4-2). He got hit hard, allowing 10 hits and 3 walks in 6 and 2/3
innings.
Wth the win Philadelphia now has a record of a division leading 72-33. With
the loss Chicago now has a record of 57-51.
