Robin Roberts allowed Ron Mead to rest his bullpen, tossing a complete game
and third baseman Eddie Mathews smacked a grand slam at Wrigely Field where
the Chicago-NL Cubs beat the Cincinnati Reds by the score of 10 to
1.

Mathews provided much of the offense. He doubled in the 3rd inning, caught a
hold of a fastball for a Grand Slam homerun in the 6th inning and lined a
one-base hit which plated a run in the 8th inning. Chicago-NL banged out 15
hits on the afternoon.

Roberts(8-11) finished the game allowing 1 run in the victory. Art
Fowler(7-10) was the losing pitcher. He allowed a few too many baserunners
giving up 10 hits and 3 walks in 5 and 1/3 innings.
