Rube Benton came through with a solid 7 and two third innings at West Side
Park as the Chicago Cubs beat the lifeless Washington Nationals by the count
of 4 to 1.

Benton(11-13) escaped virtually unscathed against the Washington hitters. He
allowed just 2 hits and no walks in 7 and 2/3 innings. Chicago had 7 hits
for the afternoon while Washington had 2.

Russ Ford recorded his 2nd save. The loss was charged to Jean Dubuc(2-5). He
gave up 7 hits and 4 walks in 8 innings. The Chicago ballclub's record now
stands at 61-52. Washington can't seem to snap out of their recent 'funk'.
Now they have a miserable 2-8 record over the last couple weeks.
