Shoeless Joe Jackson had 3 base hits and 2 RBI and Doc Crandall completed the
game without help from the bullpen as the Boston Red Sox outscored the
hopeless Washington Nationals 8 to 4.
Boston took the lead for good in the 2nd inning scoring one runner utilizing 2
base hits. Boston kept the pressure on throughout the contest as they scored
in 6 different innings.
The victory went to Crandall(4-2) who went the distance allowing 4 runs. Bill
James(5-14) took the loss. He was hit hard and gave up 13 hits and 4 walks
in 6 and 1/3 innings.
The Boston ballclub's record now stands at 47-61. Washington can't seem to
snap out of their recent 'funk'. Now they have a miserable 2-8 record over
the last couple weeks.
