Charlie Maxwell slammed a homerun at Crosley Field where the spectacular
Kansas City Athletics beat the Cincinnati Reds by the score of 5 to 4.
Lew Burdette(19-3) gave Kansas City a solid outing. He went 7 innings
surrendering 6 hits and 1 walk. Cincinnati threatened in the 9th but Kansas
City was able to put down the rally.
Burdette got help from Marv Grissom who earned his 26th save. The losing
pitcher was Ray Crone(8-8). He was touched for 8 hits and 3 walks in 5
innings.
Despite losing Rob Hickok was optimistic after the game. 'We'll get over this
one. Sometimes the breaks fall your way, sometimes they don't. Any one of a
dozen little things go different, and we come out on top.'
