Spahn(12-7) came through with a virtuoso performance against the Pittsburgh hitters. He didn't allow much, just 2 hits and 1 walk in 9 innings. Washington simply wore out the Pittsburgh pitching staff, scoring in 6 different innings. Early Wynn(10-8) was tagged with the loss. Washington knocked him around a bit, as he gave up 7 runs in 6 innings. When questioned about his counterpart after the game, Wynn was lavish in his praise, 'It was obvious very early on that we were going to be in for a long night. Spahn brought his 'A' game with him - he had good stuff and was able to spot it perfectly. He probably only made one or two bad pitches the entire game!
