One run was the difference at Ebbets Field as the Brooklyn Dodgers defeated
the Chicago-NL Cubs in 12 innings 7 to 6.
Both teams had scored 6 runs after nine full innings. Brooklyn was victorious
in the 12th inning. Stan Musial drew a walk. Al Smith came next and he drew
a walk. After an out was recorded, Vito Valentinetti then bounced one in the
dirt for a wild pitch giving Brooklyn the win as 10,881 happy fans joyfully
celebrated. Chicago-NL was out-hit by Brooklyn, 15 hits to 10.
The victory went to Harvey Haddix(14-12) who went 1 and 2/3 innings, allowing
no runs. Whitey Ford(14-10) suffered the loss in relief. He allowed 1 run
and no hits in 2 and 1/3 innings.
