Ellis Kinder held St. Louis scoreless on just 1 hit at Sportsman's Park where
the Pittsburgh Pirates beat the St. Louis Cardinals by the score of 3 to
0.

Pittsburgh came up with the deciding runs in the top of the 9th inning with 3
runs using 4 hits.  After an out was recorded, Mickey Vernon got things
rolling when he stroked a one-base hit.  Willie Jones came to the plate and
laced a single.  Kinder then laid down a sacrifice bunt.  Luke Appling
followed and he tripled scoring two teammates.  Dale Mitchell came up to bat
and delivered a single scoring the final run of the inning.  The St. Louis
batters went down meekly in the bottom of the 9th.  

Kinder(2-1) was credited with the shutout, his first of the year. Erv
Palica(0-1) was charged with the loss in relief.  He allowed 3 hits and no
walks in 1 and 1/3 innings.
