Warren Spahn pitched a complete game as the Washington Nationals bested the
Pittsburgh Pirates 10 to 2 at Forbes Field.

Pittsburgh was unable to recover after Washington went ahead in the 2nd inning
scoring 2 runs utilizing 2 base hits.  Roy Campanella initiated the scoring
when he smashed a solo-shot out of the park.  Rip Repulski was next and he
ripped a single.  Andy Pafko got his turn next, but he was a strikeout
victim.  Billy Pierce then threw a wild pitch.  Billy Martin was the next
batter, but he struck out.  Ray Boone kept the inning going and drew a walk.
Spahn followed and he reached on an error scoring the final run of the
inning.  Washington rapped out 11 hits for the night.  

Spahn(1-0) was the winner allowing 2 runs for the game. Pierce(0-1) was the
losing pitcher.  He surrendered 6 hits and 4 walks in 7 innings.
