Ed Walsh dominated striking out 11 Boston-AL batters and Fred Beck had 2 base
hits at Bennett Park as the Detroit Tigers beat the Boston-AL Red Sox 2 to
0.

Walsh(1-0) looked very much in control throughout the day. He was stingy on
the mound, allowing just 8 hits and 3 walks in 9 innings. Boston-AL was set
down quietly in the 9th.

Walter Johnson(0-1) absorbed the loss. Everyone seemed to enjoy the
performance of Walsh - except Boston-AL. Roy Purcell lamented, 'He just was
'on' this afternoon. He was keeping our guys off balance all game. A fine
game by a good strikeout pitcher - makes it a fun game for the hometown fans
- unfortunately we were the visitors!'
