The Philadelphia Phillies and the Pittsburgh Pirates locked up in an exciting
one-run game at Shibe Park.  The final score was the Philadelphia Phillies 3,
the Pittsburgh Pirates 2 in 11 innings.

The score was tied at 2 after nine. Philadelphia was victorious in the 11th
inning.  Jake Early stroked a base-hit.  After an out was recorded, Phil
Rizzuto came to bat and banged out a single.  Stan Musial then hit a single
making Philadelphia the victors to the delight of the home town faithful.
Overall Philadelphia out-hit Pittsburgh 16 to 12.  

Dutch McCall(2-0) got the win allowing no runs in 1 and 2/3 innings. The loss
was charged to Schoolboy Rowe(0-3) in relief.  He surrendered 1 run and 6
hits in 2 and 1/3 innings.
