The Philadelphia-AL Athletics and the Cincinnati Reds locked up in an exciting
one-run game at Crosley Field.  The final score was the Philadelphia-AL
Athletics 2, the Cincinnati Reds 1 in 11 innings.

Both teams were tied at 1 runs apiece after nine innings.  Philadelphia-AL
came out on top in the 11th inning.  Elmer Valo doubled.  Bobby Avila
followed and he laid down a sacrifice bunt.  Gil Hodges then doubled scoring
the run.  The teams had been locked in a scoreless duel until the 7th inning.

The victory was credited to Stu Miller(1-1) who went 2 innings, allowing no
runs. Fritz Dorish recorded the save, his 1st.  Frank Smith(2-2) was the
loser in relief.  He gave up 1 run and 2 hits in 2 innings.
