Mel Parnell pitched a complete game as the New York-AL Yankees defeated the
Washington Nationals 7 to 3 at Yankee Stadium.

In the 4th inning New York-AL scored 4 runs when they had 4 base hits.  The
key at-bat was by Richie Ashburn who brought the crowd to their feet when he
hit a single bringing home two baserunners.  New York-AL rapped out 10 hits
for the afternoon.  

The win was credited to Parnell(1-1) who went the whole way allowing 3 runs.
The losing pitcher was Bob Porterfield(0-2).  He got hammered, allowing 9
hits and 5 walks in 6 innings.
