Shortstop Johnny Lipon had 4 hits and 3 RBI at Yankee Stadium as the New
York-AL Yankees staged a comeback win over the Washington Nationals by the
count of 7 to 6.

New York-AL scored the winning runs in the bottom of the 9th inning with 2
runs on 2 base hits.  After two were out Lipon initiated the scoring spurt
when he laced a base-knock.  Ted Kluszewski was next and he lifted one out of
the park for a two run home run giving New York-AL the victory as 47,790
happy fans celebrated wildly.  New York-AL had a total of 10 hits for the
game.  

Bob Kuzava(1-0) picked up the victory, allowing no runs in 2 innings. Jim
Konstanty(0-1) was the losing pitcher in relief.  Robert Baker was ebullient
after the game, 'It's great to win a hard fought game like that.  Our guys
just weren't going to be denied.  And did you see the fans - they were going
wild! Yes sir, a very enjoyable win this afternoon!'
