Jack McCarthy had 4 hits and 5 RBI at Sportsman'S Park where the Pittsburgh
Pirates beat the St. Louis-AL Browns 9 to 3.

McCarthy provided much of the offense.  He hit a single which plated a run in
the 3rd inning, doubled which scored a run in the 5th inning, lashed a
one-base hit which brought home a run in the 7th inning and laced a single
scoring two baserunners in the 9th inning.  Pittsburgh had 13 hits overall,
while St. Louis-AL had 7.  

Bob Wicker(1-0) picked up the victory, allowing 3 runs in 8 innings. Frank
Kitson(0-1) was charged with the loss.  He surrendered 7 runs and 11 hits in
8 innings.
