Eddie Mathews launched 2 homeruns and had 3 RBI at Connie Mack Stadium where
the Chicago-NL Cubs beat the Philadelphia-AL Athletics 10 to 6.

Mathews enjoyed a fine evening at the plate.  He blasted a solo shot in the
1st inning, delivered a single in the 3rd inning, lifted one out of the park
for a two run home run in the 4th inning and lined a one-base hit in the 9th
inning.  It was roller coaster of a game as the lead change hands 5 times.

The winning pitcher was Dave Hoskins(2-0) who allowed 6 runs in 6 and 2/3
innings. Johnny Antonelli(0-1) ended up with the loss.  He allowed a few too
many baserunners giving up 13 hits and 2 walks in 5 innings.
