WEB GEMS- Bot 1st: Harry Hooper robbed Warren Miller of an extra base hit.
Bot 4th: Larry Gardner robbed Kid Elberfeld of a base hit.

Eddie Cicotte was able to finish what he started and was credited with a
complete game as the Boston Red Sox clobbered the outmatched Washington
Nationals, 13 to 3.

Tris Speaker was in a groove all day. The Washington fans hated to see him
approaching the batter's box. He laced a base-hit which was good for two
runs in the 4th inning, lined a single resulting in a run in the 6th inning
and caught a hold of a bad pitch for a Grand Slam homerun in the 7th inning.
Boston totaled 12 hits on the afternoon.

Cicotte(1-0) got the victory, allowing 3 runs for the game. Bob Groom(0-1) was
the losing pitcher. He was touched for 12 hits and 4 walks in 9 innings.

'I felt great out there today' Speaker said. 'I was seeing the ball
perfectly, and I was right on it with my swing.
