Ken Keltner had 4 hits and 3 RBI at Griffith Stadium as the Washington
Nationals beat the Pittsburgh Pirates in 12 innings 5 to 4.

Both teams had scored 4 runs after nine full innings. Washington came out on
top in the 12th inning. Joe Dimaggio reached on an error. After an out was
recorded, Bobby Doerr came up and he was hit by a pitch. Keltner then
smacked a single to load the bases. Johnny Lindell stepped in and he ripped
a one-base hit resulting in a mighty exciting win for Washington and the
9,577 home town fans in attendance. Washington managed 14 hits in their
victory.

Kirby Higbe(2-0) was the winner allowing no runs in 4 and 2/3 innings.
Schoolboy Rowe(0-1) was given the loss in relief. He was a hard-luck loser
as he did not allow an earned run in his 3 and 1/3 innings of work.

The Washington ballclub's record now stands at 7-7. With the loss, the
Pittsburgh ballclub's record is 0-2.
