With the hometown crowd on the edge of their seats, Brooklyn Superbas came
from behind to top Boston Beaneaters, 3 to 2.

Brooklyn scored the decisive runs in a big bottom of the 9th inning with 2
runs on 3 base hits. Harry Lumley led off and started the attack as he
doubled. Doc Casey came next and he drew a walk. After an out was recorded,
John Hummel then banged out a single scoring a run. Bill McCarthy then
uncorked a pitch that was ruled a passed ball. One out later, Emil Batch
stepped in and he drew a walk to load the bases. Lew Ritter joined his
teammates in the uprising and ripped a one-base hit making Brooklyn
victorious to the delight of the the home town crowd. Overall Brooklyn
out-hit Boston 10 to 4.

Mal Eason(1-0) got the win allowing no runs in 1 inning. Vive Lindaman(0-1)
absorbed the loss. 'Now there is a lesson in perseverance for you,' Jack
McCarthy noted. 'It was looking pretty dim there for a while, but we just
kept plugging away and it really paid off in spades! And it was great to see
the crowd go crazy there at the end!'
