WEB GEMS- Bot 4th: Chief Wilson robbed Wildfire Schulte of an extra base hit.
Top 7th: Jimmy Archer blocked the plate, saving a run!

1,460 fans were treated to a fine game at West Side Park as only one run
separated the combatants at game's end. The St. Louis Cardinals won by the
slimmest of margins, 6 to 5.

Slim Sallee(1-0) had a steady outing. He went 7 innings and surrended up 10
hits and 1 walk. Chicago made it exciting in the 9th, but they were unable
to push the needed runs across.

Hank Robinson earned his 1st save. The losing pitcher was George Pierce(0-1)
in relief. He was a hard-luck loser as he did not allow an earned run in his
2 innings of work.

'I didn't have my best stuff but sometimes you just get lucky,' Sallee said,
'this was one of those times.'
